S/Y Atlas Shrugged - Contest 50CS
Commentary
Welcome to S/Y Atlas Shrugged; immaculately maintained & the most upgraded Contest 50CS on the market. She was commissioned by her first German owner and hit the water in September 2009. After being trucked to Genoa, Italy in 2010 and sailed for 2 seasons she was shipped back to the Contest Yard in 2011 and laid up inside their heated hangers. When I purchased her in September 2013 she’d logged 1600nm and had run 259 engine hours. As she was new & hardly used she lacked a lot of blue water and live-aboard equipment. That said she was commissioned with full hydraulics (main & genoa) & Lewmar/Anderson electric winches making sail handling easy even single-handed.
In the last 10 years she’s undergone yearly refits & upgrades including generator install, new interior, fixed bimini/roof, davits, new tender, new anchor, new sails, Selden 304S cutter furler, continuous furling gennakers, teak deck recaulked/refitted, 2nd auto-pilot & aft air-conditioning installed. For the full upgrade & options list, extending to over 350.000 EUR, please visit 'Specifications & upgrades' and 'Refit & Maintenance'. Winter 2024/25 she's undergoing a complete Selden mast & hydraulics refit including new standing rigging. Currently in winter storage at the Contest Yard in Medemblik. Although having covered 30.000nm & 15y of age this classic blue water cruiser is still in impeccable, as new, condition.

The meaning of Lloyd’s Register Hull Construction Certification
Showroom conditions can make any yacht shine and seem to promise the best of passages. The reality, though, is that peace of mind at sea hardly comes better than when construction is under the watch of the oldest name in sea safety – Lloyd’s Register. For over half a century, Contest has delivered yachts with the surety of a Lloyd’s Register Hull Construction Certificate. Building to this standard means very much more than most might realise, and no other semi-custom sailing yacht constructor has such a continuous history, or in this sector such a high level of certification. Contest Yachts truly go further in design, engineering and build protocols than other constructors
